Celebrating Collaboration: Our 2024 Brewing Adventures

What's not to love about a collab day? The recipe development, the pizza or local deli lunch (never not delicious), building relationships with our partners, and most importantly — seeing our strains ferment incredible beers from start to finish.

Collaborations are a key part of our development, and 2024 was a banner year for working with incredible breweries to create standout beers. From exploring historical styles to pushing the boundaries of yeast-driven flavour, here are the highlights of our collaborative brews this year.

Rough Waters Brewing | Deer Lake, NL – February 2024

We teamed up with Rough Waters Brewing for a Belgian Tripel that’s as rich in character as it is in story. Using our West Abbey Ale yeast, this brew was bottle-conditioned for natural carbonation, and delivered a harmonious balance of fruity esters and spicy phenolics, perfectly complementing the specialty malts and European hops.

A project from our Production Technician, Nick, who previously worked with Rough Waters, this Belgian Tripel was a nod to the classic styles that sparked their careers in the brewing industry.

True History Brewing | Toronto, ON – March 2024

Doppelbocks don't get much better than this! Brewed for True History's "I'll Be Bock" event earlier this year, The Governator was crafted to be a smooth, malt-forward lager showcasing our Lost Lager yeast strain.

This historical German lager strain is renowned for its above average hop biotransformation and versatility, With this 7.1% ABV brew, Lost Lager brought this beer to life with exceptional malt character and just the right touch of hop nuance.

Willibald Brewery & Distillery | Ayr, ON – May 2024

A favourite of the year, we teamed up with Willibald to bring this self-titled beer, TERPS, to life. A dank delight loaded with Citra, Simcoe, and Mosaic hops — amplifing mango terpene flavours — resulting in a juicy, off-dry brew with notes of grapefruit and lime.

Willibald says, "This beer packs a dank flurry of grapefruit, lime and mango on the nose with flavours of grapefruit juice, citrus pith, and an off-dry finish. If you’re a terp-head (probably not a thing) this one’s for you."

Short Finger Brewing | Waterloo, ON – June 2024

For Short Finger’s annual Lando Day celebration, we joined forces to create Cloud City APA. This 5.6% delight used LalBrew Pomona yeast and a heavy dose of Nectaron and Moteuka hops.

The result? A double dry-hopped masterpiece with layers of tropical fruit and citrus—a perfect birthday toast!

Odd Muse Brewing (Farmers Branch, TX) & Hold Out Brewing (Austin, TX) |  – Spring 2024

A gold winning collaboration! Partnering up with Odd Muse and Hold Out to create Shoot the Moon, a New Zealand IPA that took GOLD at the US Open Beer Championship. With LalBrew Pomona driving the fermentation, this beer offered a dreamy combo of pillowy dankness, peachy tones, and white grape freshness.

Burdock Brewery | Toronto, ON – July 2024

IPA Du Vin Reisling IPA pushed boundaries by blending beer and wine worlds. Using LalBrew Pomona, Burdock was able to unlock biotransformation magic, gaining the white grape character to a new level never before achieved in our IPAs. This batch tasted like a delicious harmony of grape and hop flavours: lychee, white grape slushy, and fresh peach.

This refreshing hybrid was a summer hit, showcasing Burdock’s creativity and ability to achieve beautiful balance!

Odd Muse Brewing (Farmers Branch, TX) & False Idol Brewing (Fort Worth, TX) – July 2024

What’s better than one collaboration? Two!

Odd Muse’s Front Lines Hazy IPA and False Idol’s Borderless Union West Coast IPA both featured LalBrew Pomona and Nectaron hops. Each brewery added their own spin, creating unique beers with juicy stone fruit, tropical vibes, and impeccable balance.

Merit Brewing & Canada Malting Co. | Hamilton, ON – November 2024

For the "Beer the Czech Way" event, we partnered with Merit Brewing to craft Světlý Ležak 12˚ Premium Pale Lager. Brewed with 100% Czech ingredients, this double-decocted beauty was lagered for 12 weeks. The result? A perfectly balanced beer with a rich malt character, a fresh Saaz hop profile, and a clean, crisp finish—all thanks to Premium Pils, our Czech-origin lager yeast we love for its fast fermentation and dry, full-bodied mouthfeel.

Overall, a perfectly balanced beer with rich malt character that’s a love letter to Czech brewing traditions.

Superflux Beer Company | Vancouver, BC – November 2024

Experimental IPA #59 was an exciting showcase of our newest strain, Superfog. Paired with Hopsteiner’s HS16660 hops, this 6.5% brew delivered intense tropical aromas of passionfruit and grapefruit. Its silky mouthfeel and vibrant haze highlighted Superfog’s biotransformation potential, proving it’s a game-changer for modern IPAs.
