  1. Sales Coordinator
  2. Homebrew Lead
Sales Coordinator

Company Overview

At Escarpment Laboratories, we believe that fermentation should be easy for everyone. We are focused on growing microbial cultures that our customers can trust. Along the way, we help our customers become fermentation experts. We listen to our customers' challenges and collaborate with them to solve problems. Right now, most of what we do is supply fresh liquid yeast to craft brewers and home brewers. We are based out of Guelph, Ontario, where we operate two facilities.

Job Role
The full-time Sales Coordinator will act as a point person for incoming sales inquiries: providing support  to our pro brewing customers by email and phone, helping brewers place orders, triaging sales emails, and delegating inquiries to other members of the sales team as needed. The Sales Coordinator will also collaborate with other departments to make sure customers’ orders are scheduled, produced, packaged, and shipped to meet our busy customers’ expectations.

For this role, we are looking for someone with excellent written and verbal communication skills who is highly flexible and able to balance the needs of many different customers and departments. The successful candidate will be required to establish and maintain strong rapports with brewers and other brewing professionals, and to provide knowledgeable support to our clients. Prior experience in a customer service role and a strong command of fermentation science and brewery operations would therefore reduce the learning curve considerably. Above all else, we are seeking a candidate who loves all things yeast and is excited to work with the rest of the Escarpment Labs team to make fermentation easier for everyone.

Job Description

  • Effective written and oral communication in a fast-paced startup environment. Provide concise, organized, and complete feedback to management and coworkers.
      • Provide cheerful and knowledgeable customer support to prospective and existing clients.
  • Meet ambitious sales targets by working closely with motivated and skilled production, sales, and fulfilment teams to process, schedule, and fulfill orders.
    • Triage and delegate customer email and phone inquiries.
    • Collaborate within the company to identify and approach new sales opportunities.
    • Track sales activity in CRM, ERP, and project management software.
    • Provide informed input on marketing strategies and materials.
    • Monitor sales metrics to track and report success.
    • Analyze and report on external industry trends.

    Education and Experience

      • Prior experience in a sales or customer service role is desired.
      • A strong understanding of how beer is made and how a brewery operates is desired
      • Previous experience working in a team to complete complex projects is desired.
      • Bilingualism would be a strong advantage.
      • Familiarity with the brewing industry – especially in markets outside Ontario – would be an advantage.
      • Experience with ERP programs would be an advantage.
      • Prior knowledge of Shopify would be a plus but not required.
  • Basic web design (HTML, CSS) and/or programming experience would be a plus but not required.
    • Candidate must understand the business case of projects, and have a strong commitment to quality and to always delivering a top-notch customer experience.

    Work Environment

    • The majority of the work required for this position can be conducted remotely, but the successful candidate may be required to come to our office in Guelph several days a week.
    • We are a growing company (pun intended). This means that priorities and tasks can change rapidly at times. This also means you will have a high degree of flexibility as to how to do your job, and that we embrace an entrepreneurial approach to problem-solving and change management
    • Highly collaborative position - must work with multiple departments including Fulfilment, Production, and Quality Control.
    • You are expected to help your coworkers when they ask for help, even if the task isn’t in your job description. They will do the same for you!

    Additional Items

We pride ourselves on being a good place to work. We offer competitive compensation, paid sick leave, healthcare benefits, and free beer. We also insist on a healthy work/life balance.

A wide range of equipment and ingredients are available to staff for fermentation projects. We encourage all staff to become fermentation specialists, discovering the flavour potential of microbes.
